3 years later, Ford's vaccine passports are still a problem
Tuesday, September 24, 2024
Three years ago, on September 22, 2021, Doug Ford's PC government imposed a COVID-19 vaccine passport system on Ontario after unsuccessfully lobbying the Trudeau Liberals for a national system.
This vaccine passport system barred over two million Ontarians from restaurants, fitness centres, event spaces, theatres, concerts, and even taxpayer-owned venues. No one was safe from these restrictions — not even me.
Despite having a negative COVID-19 antigen test and being approved by Public Health to return to work, the Ford government barred me from Queens Park — my workplace as an MPP — for months because I refused to disclose my private vaccination status. I know what it feels like to be shut out by a government that no longer listens to its people.
Today, the Ford PCs are hoping you'll forget any of this happened. They've made no apologies. PC MPPS would rather sweep their cowardly actions under the rug.
But the truth is, the Ford PC government is still allowing hospitals and colleges across the province to use this same system to turn away students and workers, denying hardworking Ontarians access to education and employment.
The New Blue Party of Ontario remains opposed to mandatory vaccination policies and passports, whether they are implemented by government or businesses.
We will never let this injustice be forgotten. And we will continue to push for legislation and fines that protect the jobs and access rights of all Ontarians, regardless of vaccination status.
Stand with us as we work to hold the Ontario PC government accountable and ensure this never happens again. To help us prepare for an early provincial election as the only true, blue option on the ballot, chip in by clicking here!
With your help, we will challenge the left, balance the narrative, and change the course.
