A Comrade and a Chairman!

Yesterday, we wrote to you about one of Doug Ford's Ontario PC MPPs - Vincent Ke - implicated along with 11 Liberal politicians, in the election-influencing campaign backed by China's ruling Chinese Communist Party.

Here are some additional details you may have missed.

News of an Ontario PC MPP as the "12th politician" implicated in the controversy was floating around Queen's Park for months.

Brian Lilley, of the Toronto Sun, asked Ke about this very issue back in November but didn't make his video public until last Friday.

That was also the same day Global News named Ke as the 12th politician.

For the preceding four years since public reports first emerged on Ke's ties (click here), Ford repeatedly defended his colleague and then eventually promoted him to a junior cabinet position.

And on Friday, when the Global News story hit, Ford dealt with the issue by nominating Ke for a leadership position at Queen's Park - the position of Chair of the Standing Committee on Social Policy.

The Social Policy Committee is one of eight legislative committees at Queen's Park. It reviews legislation like the critical race theory bill that Belinda voted against in 2022 and currently it is reviewing Bill 21, Fixing Long-Term Care Amendment Act (Till Death Do Us Part), 2022Bill 33, Maternal Mental Health Day Act, 2023, and Bill 60, Your Health Act, 2023.

Eventually, as the controversy continued on Friday, Ke announced he would step away from the PC caucus.

With that announcement, Ford defended Ke, didn't propose any effort to uncover the truth, and also didn't name another MPP as Ke's replacement to chair the Social Policy Committee.

So, when the legislature resumes next week, Ke is still slated to be nominated by the Ford PC government to chair the Social Policy Committee... and MPP Vincent Ke may also be granted the title of Chairman Ke by the Ford PC government!

There are a few more interesting details to share on this story soon.
