Cambridge Council Pulls a Fast One on Residents!
Thursday, May 19, 2022
Tuesday night at a virtual meeting ...
... Cambridge City council reversed their prior position and approved accelerated construction of a 1-million square foot industrial mega-warehouse in the village of Blair.
Two months ago, council rejected the mega-warehouse after I read a petition on the matter into the record at Queen's Park.
But yesterday - in the middle of a provincial election - council held another vote while skipping the step of providing public notice to inform residents that the matter was being reconsidered. Click here to read more about the meeting.
The current proposal for the 1-million square foot industrial mega-warehouse does not meet the requirements of current planning laws and is nothing like the facility that was originally proposed to be built at the location.
The mega-warehouse is rumoured to be for Amazon.
In July 2021, Amazon hired the lobbying firm owned by the Ford PC campaign manager.
A month later, the Ford PCs approved accelerated construction of the mega warehouse - meaning it wouldn't need to follow planning laws.
While everyone else in Ontario has to follow our provincial and local laws, the Ford PCs have instilled a culture in Ontario where the rules don't apply to them or their friends.
Ontarians have to follow provincial and local planning laws for minor to major construction projects whether they be for a home, business, or for an industrial facility.
But for friends of the Ford PC government, the lobbyists running the Ontario PC Party, or establishment local politicians, other arrangements are made.
This is the same cavalier attitude the Ford PCs have shown towards small businesses in Ontario, parents, and taxpayers, for the last four years: one set of rules for the Ford PCs and the clients of their lobbyist friends; another set of rules for everyone else in Ontario.
This Saturday, we will be canvassing the village of Blair after making an announcement at a local business at 12:30pm.
And today and tomorrow, my team will be canvassing, putting up lawn signs, and working in our campaign office.
I hope you can join us.
