Do you remember the email you received a few weeks ago detailing the new beverage tax that the Ford PCs were planning to implement on April 1st?  Click here if you missed it.

This new PC tax was pushed back until June 1st.

And thanks to the New Blue Party and its supporters (you!), who have spread the word and contacted your MPPs, it appears that the Ford government is now backpedaling - and even pretending to be against their own tax!

Instead of making the beverage fee a refundable deposit like other provinces have, the Ford government's new regulations simply demand that beverage producers pay a fee for each drink container sold.

This new PC regulation is the same old one the Wynne Liberals were working to impose!

Since we sounded the alarm, the Ford government is feigning surprise and outrage that businesses would pass down a tax to consumers.

They are now trying to paint Ontario beverage producers as the villain for potentially upping drink prices, instead of their own government for demanding the new tax in the first place.

PC Environment Minister David Piccini even declared that the Ford government is prepared to implement more regulations - this time forbidding Ontario beverage producers from raising product prices to recoup the cost from the first PC regulations!

That's right: the Ontario PC answer to a big government-created problem is more big government intervention and red tape.

At the New Blue Party, our position is clear.

We do not believe in imposing new taxes on Ontario businesses, especially when other options (like a refundable recycling deposit) are available, and while our economy is still reeling from the effects of unprecedented government overreach.

With your help, we will continue to hold the Ford government to account when they mirror the federal Liberals - or when they resurrect and embrace the Ontario Liberals' old plans.

And by doing so we will challenge the left, balance the narrative, and change the course in Ontario!
