LCBO Strike: A Ford PC-Manufactured Crisis

Thursday, July 18, 2024

The current LCBO strike is a conflict manufactured by the Doug Ford PC government.

Unionized LCBO workers have been on strike for two weeks.

Enough is enough already.

The Ontario government should not have a monopoly on alcohol sales.

The Ford PC government can end the strike immediately, if they wanted to.

The Ford PC government could legislate LCBO workers back to work ...

... or hire replacements ...

... or even sell off the LCBO.

But the Ford PC government won't do any of those things.

Why?

The Ford PCs are using this conflict to drive up support among Ontarians for their plans to benefit the lobbyist masters they serve. The Ford PCs want to justify to Ontarians their plan to allow stores the right to sell beer, wine, and some cocktails without the obligation to have those same stores provide full service to Ontarians, including accepting empty bottles back.

At our first ever in-person policy conference last month, New Blue members proposed and approved a policy to dismantle the Beer Store monopoly and privatize the LCBO. And Ontarians should continue to have choices in purchasing alcohol, including the ability to return empty bottles. This is just one of the policies crafted by our grassroots members that make up the New Blue Party's first ever policy declaration.

Right now in Ontario we don't have a government making sound policy decisions that benefit Ontarians.

Instead we have the Ford PCs, who are more interested in catering to their lobbyist masters and creating conflict to justify their inaction.

And the real losers are the everyday Ontarians who just want things to work.

With your support we will continue to challenge the left, balance the narrative, and change the course in Ontario.

Together, we can hold the Ford PCs, Liberals, and NDP accountable and put an end to self-serving politics that impact everyday Ontarians.
