New Blue Party going strong. Sloan’s Party deregistered.
Thursday, April 6, 2023
Growing the New Blue Party requires us to run candidates.
And to run candidates under the New Blue Party banner, we need to remain registered with Elections Ontario.
Since last June, we have worked diligently to ensure all New Blue Party candidates and constituency associations met their legal requirements to submit campaign period financial filings to Elections Ontario.
Maintaining legal and financial compliance with election laws is time-consuming but not overly difficult.
And with 374 New Blue Party filings required as a result of registering 124 constituency associations and having 124 candidates file in the 2022 election, it requires even more commitment and diligence to ensure we remain compliant and registered.
Our first deadline was in December of 2022 – we were the first party to complete 124 constituency and 124 candidate filings along with our Party’s audited financial statements for the 2022 campaign.
We then ensured official receipts were issued in February 2023 to the thousands of our supporters that donated in 2022.
Our next deadline is coming up at the end of May, when another 124 constituency association filings and the Party’s annual audited financial statements are due for 2022 activities outside of the campaign period.
We are well on our way to completing the New Blue Party’s filings, but we have incurred accounting and bookkeeping fees to ensure that the Party and its constituency associations and candidates remain compliant.
Click here to chip in and help us with those costs.
Failing to submit financial filings results in penalties being applied to a party, including candidates being barred from running again in a future provincial or municipal election, or a New Blue constituency association and even the Party being deregistered.
That’s what recently happened to Derek Sloan’s party – the party that was supported by PC establishment operatives to try to stall the New Blue Party’s growth.
Derek’s party failed to submit audited financial returns to Elections Ontario for annual activities in 2021 and for the campaign period in 2022, which were due in May and December of 2022, respectively.
As a result, Derek’s party no longer exists as it was de-registered by Elections Ontario.
This type of behaviour isn’t new coming from Derek.
Derek’s audited financial statements for his 2020 Conservative leadership campaign were due in February of 2021 – but they still haven’t been approved by Elections Canada because he has failed to accurately account for the $1.44 million dollars he raised.
After that, Derek promised Canadians across the country that he was going to build a federal party and received thousands of dollars in donations – but his federal party never materialized because PC establishment operatives told him to switch gears to focus on disrupting the New Blue.
Derek's venture into Ontario provincial politics started with his attempt to have us fire half of our candidates and only run 62 candidates in the election.
Then it continued into the Hamilton Centre by-election, just before his party was de-registered, when Derek tried to run a candidate – but only after the New Blue announced our candidate.
The PC and Liberal establishment know the New Blue Party is a long-term threat.
That is why they have backed an army of political actors throughout Ontario claiming to be on the side of truth and justice, but who spend their time cutting deals with PC operatives and protecting the Ford PC government by avoiding criticism of their policies.
But we remain focused and will continue building and growing.
And we are lucky to have Jim leading the way and taking the abuse from PC establishment operatives who continue their whisper campaigns of defamation against the New Blue and against our family.
Following the Hamilton Centre by-election, three more by-elections will be called later in 2023 for the ridings of Kanata-Carleton, Scarborough-Guildwood, and Kitchener Centre.
We plan on running a candidate in each of those by-elections!
We have not stopped working – continuing our advocacy, starting important initiatives, and planning others.
There is more to share with you but we have learned to keep our cards close to our chest.
We will keep moving forward and continue to challenge the left, balance the narrative, and change the course.
Sincerely,
Belinda Karahalios
New Blue Party of Ontario
