108 candidates!

Friend,

One day after fighting tooth and nail to make sure every one of our 108 candidates were successfully nominated, we were right back to work.

It was not an easy task, to say the least. 

There was the obvious time crunch.

There were harsh winter conditions making travel near impossible. 

There were candidates who dropped out — including one after using the nominations signatures that volunteers collected for her — forcing us to obtain new signatures for the eventual candidate on the day of the filing deadline. 

And there were several aggressive and unreasonable Elections Ontario returning officers who tried to reject the nomination papers of New Blue candidates across the province based on made up, fake rules.

In some cases, disputes escalated to the point that we needed to pull in our party lawyer — who also (luckily) just happens to be our party leader, Jim Karahalios, to straighten out the situations with Elections Ontario’s head office. 

In all of the above instances, our team persevered.

The result was that in all 108 ridings we tried to register a candidate, we succeeded.
