Ford PCs: Bigger Government, Bigger Debt, Bigger Hypocrisy
On Tuesday, the Ford PCs unveiled a new cabinet comprised of 37 ministers.
This is the largest provincial cabinet in Canada’s history.
The hypocrisy is stunning.
In 2016, when the Wynne Liberals increased their cabinet size from 27 to 30 ministers, the Ontario PCs were outraged.
A mass email from the Ontario PC Party in 2016 lamented that Wynne was “adding more weight to her bloated government [with] 30 ministers,” and that her “priority is more money for limos to chauffeur a bigger cabinet.”
If the Ontario PCs didn’t have double standards, they would have no standards at all.
Nine years later, the Ford PCs have not only continued Wynne’s legacy on every major policy issue—including Ontario’s physical education curriculum, drug injection sites, DEI initiatives, carbon taxes, electric vehicle subsidies, the wind turbine rip-off, and more—they’ve further bloated the cabinet they once criticized.
The Ford PCs have also outpaced Wynne in reckless spending and debt accumulation.
As of December 2024, the Ford PCs have added $86 billion to Ontario’s debt.
The Ford government spends over $1.2 billion per month on interest payments alone.
Ontario has the most indebted sub-sovereign government in the world.
And now, the Ford PCs are justifying even more overspending under the guise of “fighting tariffs”—just as they did with their costly and ineffective COVID-19 measures.
The Ontario PC Party isn’t blue and they are not for you.
