Ford PCs’ DEI Betrayal
The Ontario PCs are better than the Liberals, right?
Surely, they can’t be as bad as the Liberals, right?
When it comes to DEI (“Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion”) initiatives it turns out the PCs are exactly the same as the Liberals.
First, the Ontario PCs refused to eliminate the absurd “Chief Equity Officer” education ministry position.
Now, the PCs have doubled down on the prior Liberal government’s “Equity and Inclusive Education Strategy.”
Last summer, the Ford PC government released a report pledging to “improve and expand” these DEI policies.
Here’s what the Ontario PCs’ DEI agenda looks like:
1. More Bureaucracy and Government Overreach
The PCs’ plan expands “anti-racism tools and strategies” to advance so-called “racial equity.”
This includes unnecessary race-based data collection across education, child welfare, and justice sectors to comply with Wynne’s Anti-Racism Act, 2017.
Ontario Regulation 437/97 has also been amended to define subjective “hateful remarks” as professional misconduct in the teaching profession.
These measures are based on the false premise of “systemic racism” in Ontario and infringe on local school board autonomy.
2. More Identity Politics
The PCs’ report mandates targeted programs for specific racial groups and embeds racial considerations into hiring practices and professional conduct rules.
This focus on identity politics prioritizes superficial differences over merit and the shared values that unite Ontarians.
A truly conservative government would reject DEI overreach and identity politics. That is why at the New Blue, we promote a unified national identity, equal opportunity, and merit-based principles for all.
