Doug Ford’s Carbon Tax Hypocrisy Exposed
On Monday, Doug Ford took to social media to applaud Mark Carney for removing the federal consumer carbon tax, calling it “the worst tax ever.”
The irony?
Doug Ford imposed his own carbon tax in Ontario.
When Patrick Brown proposed a carbon tax as PC leader, Doug Ford supported him and the carbon tax plan.
After Brown’s departure, Ford, under pressure from Jim Karahalios’ Axe the Carbon Tax campaign, claimed he saw the light and changed his stance.
However, once elected, Ford tried to trick Ontarians by repealing cap and trade and announcing that he eliminated the carbon tax—all while cutting a carbon tax deal with Trudeau and bringing in Ford’s own carbon tax.
Under this deal, the Ford PC government agreed to collect the consumer carbon tax for Trudeau and introduce their own provincial carbon tax on Ontario industry.
After all this, the Ford PCs deliberately weakened their own court challenge against Trudeau’s carbon tax by conceding two of the three legal arguments to the federal Liberals.
To this day, the Ontario PCs refuse to acknowledge their hand in implementing the federal carbon tax, and never mention their own “Made in Ontario” industrial carbon tax. They pretend it doesn’t exist.
Doug Ford is a coward and a fraud.
He is not the “Axe the Carbon Tax” fighter he purports to be.
The removal of the consumer carbon tax would never have happened without Jim’s relentless Axe the Carbon Taxcampaign in 2017—back when both big-government Conservatives and Liberals were in favour of so-called “revenue-neutral” carbon pricing.
But we must stay vigilant.
Instead of taxing consumers directly, there is a good chance that the federal government will quietly shift the burden through backdoor regulations—exactly how the Ford PCs imposed their carbon tax in Ontario.
Doug Ford and Mark Carney are in lockstep, after all. In Ford’s words:
“[Mark Carney] is a very bright individual. He understands finances like no other person.”
By now, it’s clear to many that the Ontario PC Party has completed its transformation into an arm of the federal Liberals.
