Doug Ford was elected PC leader in 2018 with a mandate to defeat the Kathleen Wynne Liberals and end carbon pricing in Ontario.

Instead of defeating Wynne, Ford replaced her.

Ford’s Ontario PC government intentionally botched their appeal of the federal carbon tax by conceding two of the three legal arguments to the Trudeau Liberals, and introduced the Emissions Performance Standard — a carbon tax on Ontario’s industrial sectorbefore the Supreme Court ruled on whether Trudeau’s federal carbon tax was constitutional. Despite pretending to be against the federal carbon tax, Ford’s provincial government is expected to reel in $2.2 billion by 2030 with their own “Made in Ontario” industrial carbon tax.
