You may have heard that on Sunday, CBC News’ Twitter account was labelled “government-funded media” by the social media platform. The CBC responded in protest by “pausing” its use of Twitter on Monday.

The CBC claims to be an independent news source, but we all know that it is largely funded by the federal Liberal government.

In 2019, the Trudeau Liberals propped up Canada’s establishment media with a taxpayer subsidy of $600 million dollars.

Ever since, we have considered the government funding of establishment media to be a federal political matter.

But did you know that the Ontario PCs are so intent on replicating everything the Trudeau Liberals do, that they came up with their own way to fund Canada’s largest left wing newspaper just two years later?

That’s right: in 2021, the Ford PC government gave an online gambling license worth $500 million dollars to the Toronto Star company.

This financial gift (the first of its kind in Ontario) was a lifeline to the Toronto Star, which had previously been going bankrupt.

The Star boasted that their PC-gifted gambling license would fund “social justice journalism.”

To top it all off, Doug Ford put the Toronto Star's lobbyist - a former top staffer to then Liberal Premier Dalton McGuinty - in charge of it all as the head of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission.
